Hareep: the music, the musicians, and the stories behind the tradition
A lecture-recital with master musicians from Hunza and academic researchers on Hareep, an indigenous musical tradition of the Hunza Valley in northern Pakistan. It looks at how repertoires were acquired and passed on, how musicians' social position has changed, and how the tradition is practised today, and marks the public launch of the digitised edition of Colin Huehns' 1991 dissertation. Presented with the Aga Khan Music Programme.
